Anam cara: soul (spiritual) friends

Here are some spiritual journeys of beings who I have met on the pathless path from nowhere to now here. Call them soul sisters/brothers, kindred souls, spiritual friends or fellow travelers.

The essence is that we recognized the divinity in each other.

This shows that kindred souls will always meet (again) when the time is ripe. Their connection transcends time and space. I feel very blessed to have met some on my spiritual journeys. They contribute greatly to the expansion of this play in consciousness. They all understand the fundamental truth, expressed so beautifully in the Zohar: to receive in order to share.

This play in consciousness is so wonderful: new horizons (visions) open all the time. There is so much talking about The Secret and the Secret above the Secret. But the real secret is so simple: just a 180 degrees turn from focusing on yourself and all the ‘processes’ happening there (mind can create infinitely here!) to focus on: what can “I” contribute to the whole.

From my daughter Mirjam I got a wonderful book, which expresses so beautifully these lofty concepts. I love the part about: anam cara: soul friends

The Celtic understanding of friendship found its inspiration and culmination in the sublime notion of the anam cara. Anam is the Gaelic word for soul; cara is the word for friend. So anam cara means soul friend. The anam cara is a person to whom you can reveal the hidden intimacies of your life. This friendship is an act of recognition. When you have an anam cara, your friendship cut across all convention and category. You are joined in an ancient and eternal way with the friend of your soul. Central here is the recognition and awakening of the ancient belong-ing between two friends. Since the human heart is never completely born, love is the continuous birth of creativity within and between us.

The anam cara experience opens a friendship that is not wounded or limited by separation or distance. Such friendship can remain alive even when the friends live far away from each other. Because they have broken through the barriers of persona and egoism to the soul level, the unity of their souls is not easily severed. When the soul is awakened, physical space is transfigured. Even across the distance two friends can stay attuned to each other and continue to sense the flow of each other's lives. With your anam cara you awaken the eternal. In this soul-space there is no distance.  (Extract from Anam Cara ISBN 978-1-848-27048-0 John o'Donohue)

Your Anam Cara always accepts you as you truly are, holding you in beauty and light. In order to appreciate this relationship, you must first recognize your own inner light and beauty. This is not always easy to do. The Celts believed that forming an Anam Cara friendship will help you to awaken your awareness of your own nature and experience the joys of others.

In Celtic spirituality, the anam cara friendship awakens the fullness and mystery of your life. You are joined in an ancient and eternal union with humanity that cuts across all barriers of time, convention, philosophy, and definition. When you are blessed with an anam cara, the Irish believe, you have arrived at that most sacred place: ~HOME~

I would like to translate it as spiritual friends. Because the main factor for me between spiritual friends is inspiration (in the spirit). To inspire each other and infuse each other with enthusiasm (en Theos: in God) to help spreading the divine light all over the Universe.

This is also a beautiful expression of the Shiva-Shakti principle.

If a normal relation is to succeed it is very important to share a common goal. If you share the highest goal your spiritual friendship will easily transcend space and time.

Also Osho used this concept of a spiritual friend: The real master is only a friend, nothing more, nothing less. He can share his experience with you.

I love the definition of Deepak Chopra of the soul or spirit:

Soul is omniscient, it is intuitive, the source of intuition, source of intention, insight, imagination, creativity. The source of meaning, purpose, decision making.

Your soul has infinite creativity, your soul co-creates with God and there is no more valuable quest for human beings then to find their soul.

The chaos that is in the world now is a rift in our collective soul. We have lost our soul. Healing is nothing else as bringing back the restoration of the meaning of wholeness.

I got this response from Tony, the creator of this site:

Your site is a wonderful invitation to soul friendship.  Blessings on the work.

When I started this website I had no slightest notion where it would lead me to, but as the Buddha said the path is found by travelling.
